Easter is marked by religious festivities where faith is palpable in many cities of the country.
Easter festivities are very popular in Brazil, as is the Holy Week that precedes them (remember to book early, as many Brazilians take vacations). Large supermarkets cover their shelves with chocolate eggs. The chocolates are distributed on Easter Sunday. Fish is traditionally eaten on Passion Friday. In addition to masses, the death of Christ is the subject of theatrical performances. From crucifixion to resurrection, the processions are always well attended.
