CONVENTO E IGREJA SÃO FRANCISCO
Neo-colonial convent, now a law faculty, with a wattle-and-daub church adorned with paintings
The convent of São Francisco was inaugurated in 1647, during the colonial period, by the Franciscan order. In the 19th century it was transformed into a law faculty and was unfortunately destroyed in 1933 (like many buildings in the city) to make way for a neo-colonial style convent. Its church, the São Francisco church, was built in cob in 1647. It gained its present appearance in the 18th century. Its interior is simple, decorated with paintings telling the life of St Francis.
