IGREJA DE SANTO ANTÔNIO
Ancient church still standing, near Viaduto do chà, with restored Baroque paintings and gilding
This church would be the oldest in the city of São Paulo still standing. It dates from the beginning of the 17th century, but records show its existence as early as 1592. The first Franciscans settled here before the construction of their convent. It is a simple construction built by anonymous people and during four centuries it has undergone several phases of work. In 2005, the baroque paintings and gilding from the 17th century were restored. Inserted between modern buildings, it is located near the Viaduto do chà.
