MONUMENTO AS BANDEIRAS
Imposing 50-metre-long monument, north of the park, pays tribute to the expeditions that ventured into the state's interior
This imposing 50-metre-long work is by Victor Brecheret, an Italian-Brazilian sculptor who was very important in introducing modernism to Brazil and who was responsible for several notable sculptures in São Paulo. Dated 1954, the monument, located in the northern part of the park in the Armando de Salles Oliveira Square, pays tribute to the expeditions that ventured into the interior of the state (the bandeiras or bandeiras sertanistas) in the 17th century and features the characters of the Indian, the Black and the mythical bandeirante.
