Since 2004, the aim of this museum has been to present black culture as a feature of national identity. From the African cultural origins of an entire continent to the present day, passing of course through the era of slavery, working-class times, carnival, capoeira and samba... And above all the culture of candomblé, the meanings and representations of orixás, the celebration of religious worship. Paintings, photographs, engravings, sculptures and all kinds of documents. Many photos by Pierre Verger (1902-1996). Worth seeing.

Incroyable collection d'art africain! Il y a tant d'oeuvres qu'elles sont parfois très proches les unes des autres. Espace dédié à la réflexion sur l'esclavage et le commerce triangulaire et sur l'influence des coutumes africaines dans la société brésilienne.
