ICHEON-DONG BUDDHA STATUE
A Buddha statue carved into a rock, said to date from the Goryeo period, is said to be a Mireuk or a Buddha of the future, Amitabha according to others.
This beautiful Buddha carved in the 12 m high rock would date from Goryeo and would be a Mireuk, a Buddha of the future. According to others, it would be Amitabha and it would be from Silla. Its head, sculpted in 3 dimensions, has a crack in the neck. It is said that it was a Chinese general who came to help the Koreans during the 1592 invasions and, because his horse had been frightened by her, cut her off with his sword. The bas-relief is elegant, but we lack the distance to fully appreciate it.
