DAEWONSA TEMPLE
Temple in two parts separated by a dragon over 100 m long, with paintings depicting the life of Buddha inside the dragon.
Although not the largest, it is one of the strangest and most unique temples to be visited in South Korea. It is divided into two parts, a lower and an upper court. The two are separated by a gigantic dragon over 100 m long. Just before its mouth, we cross a small stone bridge that crosses a waterhole filled with water lilies. You can enter the dragon's interior, but you are asked to take off your shoes and bow. If you are not happy with the second option, you can refrain from doing so, but the first option remains imperative. For the short story, the figure of the dragon has a special meaning. The dragon is synonymous with good fortune but also spiritual clarity. He is also the one who scares and protects. Inside his body one does not fail to admire the different paintings depicting the life of the Buddha. At the entrance to the lower main hall, we are greeted by rows of small golden Buddhas (nearly a hundred). Just next door is the main sanctuary dedicated to the bodhisattva of the afterlife, Jijang-bosal. There are other sanctuaries, but there is one in particular that has a sumptuous surprise in store for us, that of Sashin-gak. We see murals with original and unique motifs dedicated to the spirit of Sashi Mountain. Strangely enough, this temple to the dragon remains little known, so it is ideal for a little peace and quiet. When passing through Pohang, you shouldn't miss this confusing temple.
