King Wonseong's Tomb, famous for the figures of guardians carved in stone, is the finest and most finished in Gyeongju.
This tomb is certainly the most beautiful and most complete in Gyeongju, but it is also one of the most remote from the centre. It would be the tomb of King Wonseong. At the end of a beautiful alley lined with pine trees, it has an altar, a lantern and a mound surrounded by panels carved with bas-reliefs representing the 12 signs of the zodiac. This tomb is famous for the stone carved guardian figures that line the path leading to it. We see a couple of mythical animals that look like lions, 2 civil servants and 2 soldiers.
