Astronomical observatory dating from the reign of Queen Seon-Deok, used to scan the sky for weather forecasts.
It is the oldest astronomical observatory in the country. It was built under the reign of Queen Seon-Deok (632-647). It was used to scan the sky in order to make weather forecasts. It is not really impressive but when you look at it, you realize that it was intelligently built: a square base for the 4 seasons composed of 12 stones (months). A total of 28 levels composed of 362 stones, one for each day of the lunar calendar.

La tour d'observation est un petit monument au milieu d'un parc floral où de nombreux coréens aiment se balader en famille. A l'occasion d'une visite de deux jours à Gyeongju, c'est un passage obligé entre plusieurs sites (centre-ville, parc aux tumulus royaux, musée, pont)
