CHEOMSEONGDAE OBSERVATION TOWER
Astronomical observatory dating from the reign of Queen Seon-Deok, used to scan the sky for weather forecasts.
It is the oldest astronomical observatory in the country. It was built under the reign of Queen Seon-Deok (632-647). It was used to scan the sky in order to make weather forecasts. It is not really impressive but when you look at it, you realize that it was intelligently built: a square base for the 4 seasons composed of 12 stones (months). A total of 28 levels composed of 362 stones, one for each day of the lunar calendar.
