Museum with some 100,000 objects, displaying 3,000, most of them discovered during excavations of tombs and temple sites.
It is the largest museum in Korea after the one in Seoul. It consists of four large buildings. He owns some 100,000 objects and exhibits 3,000 of them. There are several national treasures. Most of the exhibits were found during the excavations of the tombs, but some also come from temple sites. Royal jewellery and Buddhist objects, including some magnificent reliquaries, are among the highlights of the collection. You can see the roof ridge of Hwangnyongsa, the largest temple in the country under Silla, and you can get an idea of the disproportionate size of this monument. There's a model. A separate hall displays the objects found during excavations in the Anapji Basin. Opposite, in the courtyard, are reproductions of Bulguksa's stupas. Outside when you arrive, under a pavilion, is the famous Emille bell. This bell, the largest in Korea, is more than 3 m high and weighs 23 tons. It is not the oldest, it dates "only" from 771 and there is still an older one in a temple of the Odaesan, but certainly the most beautiful from an artistic point of view. The elegant motifs on its walls, typical of Silla's bells, are noteworthy. She was transported to this place from the Bongdeoksa temple. Be careful, some rooms were closed for renovation during our last visit. Find out in advance on the museum's website, or from the tourist office. This museum is really worth a visit!
