GAMCHEON CULTURE VILLAGE
A former shantytown has become an art village and a must-visit site in Busan, with repainted dwellings, cafés and art galleries.
This former shantytown was completely rehabilitated in 2009 under the impetus of local artists and residents. Since then, it's become a veritable art village and a must-see site on any visit to Busan, and it's easy to see why! Houses have been repainted in pastel shades, art galleries, small and sometimes hidden shops and cafés have opened their doors everywhere, and murals have taken over the walls of the maze of alleyways. It's a real pleasure to stroll through these narrow streets, all decorated and full of surprises. Don't hesitate to stop off at one of the many streefood stalls dotted around the area. Three little tips are in order: remember to wear good shoes, as you'll be doing a lot of walking; take a map of the village at the entrance, so you don't get lost in this charming labyrinth; and be careful not to be too noisy, as this is a lively village where all the houses are inhabited. Like a treasure hunt, you can set off in search of the 12 little wooden houses, hidden here and there throughout the village, to complete your plan with a printed stamp. It's a postcard stroll not to be missed! All the more so as the area offers a magnificent view of the city. And don't forget your camera - it would be a shame to miss out on the hundreds of wonderful shots you can take here. A huge favorite that's sure to win you over!
