MIREUKSAJI
A monument where the Mireuksa temple once stood, the foundations, a few stone structures and a 14 m-high stupa remain.
This was the site of the Mireuksa temple built in the 600s under the Baekje kingdom. All that remains are the foundations and a few stone structures, not least a 14 m-high stupa. This is one of the highest and oldest stupas in the country. It once stood even higher, but was badly damaged over time. Restored in 1915, then in 1965 and again in 1980, it was consolidated with cement. Now only 6 storeys high, it remains impressive. The surrounding natural setting is also charming.
