PUNGNAMMUN
Southern chicane gate of Jeonju's ancient fortified wall, reminiscent of the Suwon gates, with an architecture unique to Korea.
Very pretty chicane gate from the south of the old fortified wall of the city that recalls the gates of Suwon. It was built in 1389 to be destroyed several times. In 1907, all the city's walls and gates were dismantled for urban planning reasons, except for this gate. The belfry and cannon were moved, and it was abandoned until its restoration in 1978. It has an architecture unique to Korea, and unlike the gates of Seoul, it is not suffocated by an ultramodern urban environment.
