WALKS FROM NAMWON TO BANSEON

Walks from Namwon to Banseon to discover traditional houses, the Gyoryong fortress and villages such as Baemsagol.
It's a pleasure to stroll through old Namwon, which retains many charming traditional houses, mainly around Gwanghallu. On the other side of the river lies the Namwon tourist complex in the mountains. It includes an amusement park, Namwon Land, a cultural center and a traditional music center offering weekend performances. There's also a Chunhyangchon folk village.
North of the city the remains of the 교룡산국민관광지 Gyoryong fortress in a tourist park. Further north is the 오리정 Orijeong pavilion, also linked to the Chunhyang legend.
10 km east of the town lies the presumed tomb of the heroine Chunhyang.
Before reaching Banseon, the tourist village of Baemsagol, you can descend to the village of Baekilli, where route 1084 branches off into route 729, which leads to the park. The road on the left leads to the Silsangsa temple. Situated on a plain, which is rare, it features some interesting buildings, and above all, at the entrance, just after the bridge, stone totems(doljangseung) very similar to the dolharubang on Jeju Island. On the road leading to the temple, on the right-hand side, is a workshop for lacquered wooden dishes and bowls, the Geumho gongye. The craftsman, Mr. Kim Eulsaeng, is a living cultural asset. He perpetuates this art craft, which mainly produces monk's crockery. These elegant black dishes with their dark red highlights deserve their high price tag.
