JEONGNIMSA TEMPLE SITE
The site of a great temple founded under Baekje, a lotus pond, an elegant five-storey stupa and a stone statue remain.
This is the site of a very large temple built under Baekje. All that remains is a lotus pond and a five-storey stupa of rare elegance, one of the oldest in the country, bearing an inscription made by the Chinese general who took the city in 660. A very strange stone statue has been eaten away by time, dating from either Baekje or Goryeo, with a hat that may have been added later. It is thought to be Vairocana, the Cosmic Buddha.
