BOWONSA BUDDHIST TRIAD
Triad discovered in 1958 with three Buddhas carved in stone, the oldest rock sculpture in South Korea.
On the ancient site of the Bowonsa temple founded under Silla, of which only a few stones remain, there are three Buddhas carved in stone, 2 to 3 m high. These beautiful smiling engravings are the best examples of sculptures from the Kingdom of Baekje. Their smiles, which seem to set their faces on fire, change according to the lighting. Discovered in 1958, this magnificent triad is considered to be the oldest rock sculpture in South Korea. A must see!
