GWANDEOKJEONG LODGE
Pavilion built for training the "Gwandeok" military forces, with paintings and calligraphy by the king's brother.
Built in 1448 during the reign of the great King Sejong, this pavilion was erected for the training of military forces. "Gwandeok" poetically means "exercise of the spirit and virtue". There are beautiful paintings and also a calligraphy executed by a younger brother of the king. This pavilion, which is the oldest monument on the island, represents the quintessence of buildings dedicated to military training. Just in front of it stand 2 of the 45 dolharubangs of the island (if you ever feel like finding them all).
