PYONGYANG AIRPORT
The country's main airport looks like a provincial airport. The airport of Sunan (IATA code: FNJ • code OACI : ZKPY) is the airport of Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea. Sunan has two tracks, a long track (01-19) which is also the most used track for international flights. The smallest runway (17-35) is the runway used by North Korean aviation and for domestic flights. This airport is the home base of the North Korean airline Air Koryo which is one of the few, if not the only, to still serve this destination. Prior to the year 2000, Aeroflot proposed links with Moscow. Air China has also attempted to develop this air route but without success and therefore gave up in June 2018.
The first terminal reopened to the public in 2016 and is intended for domestic flights only. It is connected to the second terminal for long haul and was inaugurated in 2015. The facilities are sketchy but sufficient for traffic: a dozen counters, a café-bar, a news-stand and an Internet Café (not open to foreigners). There is also a duty-free shop but it does not offer any cheaper prices than in the city and especially nothing very interesting (especially local food). Don't count on it too much, so.
The airport is only accessible for those who fly or opt for a flight from Pyongyang (inquire with the guides and agencies to plan this visit in advance).
