KIM IL-SUNG STADIUM
Accommodating up to 50 000 spectators, Kim Il-Sung Stadium has long remained the largest in the country until the construction of the First May Stadium in 1989. Inaugurated in 1926 under the name of Girimri Stadium, it has been used for many political meetings. Destroyed by American bombardment, it was rebuilt only in 1969, taking the name of the stadium of Moranbong, which is the name of the Football Club of Pyongyang. Renovated in 1982, it is renamed in honour of Kim Il-Sung and today hosts the meetings of the local football club (Chollima). It also serves as the starting point and then the arrival of the Grand Marathon of Pyongyang in which many foreigners participate. It is sometimes possible to visit it on request to the guides, who can include the visit in the program.
