SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL COMPLEX (SCI-TECH)
The new complex which was built in only one year by the soldiers of the regime on Ssuk Island and whose main building has the form of an atom, expresses the architectural evolutions in North Korea that was marked by the use of glass and futurist forms. The form was chosen specifically to recall the regime's refusal to abandon its nuclear programme.
The visit to the Centre has several stages: the computer rooms, a Foucault pendulum, and rooms dedicated to technological advancement in construction, electrical grid or mining technology. There would be a seismic simulation room. The explanations by the guides are short and technical, and only the most engineering savvy will understand what is explained. The building is intended as a showcase for the technological advancement promoted by the Korean workers ' Party.
The visit is interesting especially for the building itself as in the centre there is a spectacular canopy with a metallic structure. Under this structure there is a rocket model capable of transporting a satellite in space. A section is reserved for books in foreign languages: on the shelves. concerning French books there are construction brochures, culinary technology or a book on architectural trends in the construction of nurseries and schools.
