KORYO MUSEUM
The Confucian Academy which is formerly a philosophical teaching place is today the jewel of works from the Koryo period and numerous testimonies of the regional culture. If the exposed parts are often copies (the originals are safely kept in Pyongyang), the guides know how to turn the visit into a captivating one. Built on the model of a temple, the Museum consists of a succession of courtyards and traditional buildings built on stone promontories. However the visit is mostly interesting for the architecture: the different sections of the temple still have original wooden frames with beams that are painted inside. The colours highlight the quality of the ornaments. Closely look at the model of the tomb of King Kongmin, you will find valuable information that you will not have on the site itself. The gardens that surround the complex are maintained to perfection and are worth a visit.
A small shop sells local ginseng alcohol; it will be a good souvenir of this place.
