The palmier palm tree (Hyphaene benguellensis var. ventricosa rusiziensis) is endemic in the northern plain of Rusizi that is known as Rukoko for that reason. This palm tree wears nuts which, once raised, have a texture very close to that of ivory. German Roland Wagner, pépiniériste and exporter, and his wife Angélique Ndikumana, for the artisanal part, launched a few years ago the production of original jewellery in this natural ivory, dyed or not. The shop is located in a private house, near the ZEP. We love to go back into this happy bazaar where nuts, already worked or not, are dragging around everywhere. Angélique plans to open a shop on the shores of the lake between the Bora Bora and the hotel-club of Lake Tanganyika.
