THE ROAD OF VEGETABLE CRAFTSMANSHIP

On the part of the RN 1 located between Kayanza and Kabuye (km south of Kayanza), you can find all along the road along a river lined with many brick kilns, points of sale of craft fibres of vegetable fibres (sisal, rattan…). Hammocks, carpets with geometric motifs (different tones from ochre to brown), pots or bags are among the products offered by local artisans. We should not hesitate to negotiate prices, but to a certain extent, reasonable for both parties. Also close to the RN 1, you will be able to visit the parish of Gatara (12 km south of Kayanza, then a trail over 2-3 km) which includes a craftsman centre offering the same type of production, with more varied colours (e. g. mats made of green braided strips, yellow, purple or white stitched between them).
