GORDON HOUSE
Remarkable building named in honor of William Gordon, venue for the debates of the Jamaican Parliament, worth a visit in Kingston.
The brick and concrete building built in 1960 is the venue for the Jamaican Parliament, named after William Gordon, a member of the Jamaican Assembly. Gordon was accused of instigating the Morant Bay Rebellion of 1865 and was sentenced to death. Since Independence in 1962, the Senate and the House of Representatives have sat here. Headquarters House is next door and houses the offices of the Jamaica National Heritage Trust. Construction of a new Parliament building is underway.
