THE OLYMPIA GALLERY
Espace créatif, a small art hub in Kingston, featuring works by contemporary artists, a framing store...
The Olympia Art Center is a creative space, a small art hub in the middle of Kingston, located in a historic residential complex. The Jamaican civil architect A.D. Scott, a patron of the arts and a sculptor in his spare time, wanted to create in the 1970s a hotel residence within an arts center, or art in the middle of a living space, in the manner of Le Corbusier.
Olympia Gallery.
Surrounded by a beautiful sculpture garden, the main gallery exhibits works by contemporary artists in a vast octagonal space on two floors covered by a huge Plexiglas dome roof. The space can even accommodate very large formats (visual artists, painters ...). Many are Jamaican, but also Caribbean, notice to the collectors! On the third floor we discover a fresco painted by the famous national artist Barrington Watson. The mural covers all the walls of the room with scenes illustrating the history and cultural heritage of the island. There are exhibitions of ceramics as well as old lithographs; the themes of the monthly exhibitions are very varied.OMG Olympia Gallery. A smaller, more intimate pop-up
gallery, the OMG, is a space that hosts exhibitions of smaller objects or collections and art events (performances, book signings, workshops, etc).Framing and Supplies. A framing store for those who might fall in love with a canvas and an art supply store complete the decor of this very interesting art center.
