COURT BUILDING

Court located in a small red brick building topped by an octagonal turret, to be visited in Morant Bay.
This small red brick building, topped by an octagonal turret and flanked by a double flight of stairs, is a real pocket court. The building dates from the end of the last century and replaced the one that was burned down by the insurgents of the last great rebellion on the island. The courthouse was also destroyed more recently by fire in 2007. In front of the courthouse, the statue of Paul Bogle, created by Edna Manley, the grand dame of Jamaican sculpture, has great symbolic value and a naive aesthetic.
