BOTANICAL GARDEN

Botanical garden, one of the oldest in Jamaica, featuring many exotic plants, a good place for a relaxing stop.
Created in 1779, it is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the country. Like the village, it too has seen better days when British ladies on spa treatments came to rest in the generous shade of its large trees. The visit is a restful stop. You will discover many exotic plants such as bougainvillea, mango trees and the famous breadfruit, which was brought back from Oceania by Captain William Bligh in 1793 and acclimatized here before proliferating and whose fruit is an ingredient of Jamaican cuisine.
