In Jamaica, everyone knows the famous Dunn's River Falls in Ocho Rios, these waterfalls that are followed by a huge human chain. But the island has many waterfalls and rivers that are just as beautiful and less touristy. It is in the parish of Portland, in the most confidential Reach Falls that I decided to take you down.
After picking up Ricky, my guide, at the intersection leading to the waterfalls, he told me that he had decided that we would not do things like any other. He has a rather special program for me and it is not through the main entrance that we will access the falls. After parking the car by the side of the road, we leave empty-handed, no camera, just our bathing suit (and possibly water shoes). Once the keys are hidden under a stone, we take a small "secret" path and a few meters further down we discover the crystal clear waters of the Reach Falls. The place and just for us; just Ricky, me, the lapping of the waterfalls and the wind that makes nature sing.
We start our aquatic epic and it is therefore from below that we will interfere in the falls. What a great experience! It's a real eye-opener. Nature is lush and the water offers us sumptuous shades of green. We enjoy every moment, every detail, like this ray of sunlight that pierces the leaves and crashes into the clear water. The walk alternates between climbing (beware, it's sometimes slippery), diving into fresh waterfalls and jumping for the more adventurous. Ricky knows the river inside out, he'll take you the best way and reach out if you need it!
If you use the main entrance, you will have to pay to access the Reach Falls and above all you will not have the chance to live this unique experience, that of being alone in the world in these magnificent waterfalls with nuances that will remain engraved in your memory. An idyllic and refreshing experience. Jamaica feels best off the beaten track.
