The small square, the focal point of downtown Montego Bay, sometimes experiences traffic jams worthy of the Place de l'Etoile! Pastor Sam Sharpe was the leader of what is still known as the "Christmas Rebellion" in 1831. He was hanged in public in Montego Bay after dragging several parishes in the country into his revolt, and is one of Jamaica's national heroes. In addition to jerk chicken stands, there is a small market, the Montego Bay Cultural Center and two large light screens that glow night and day.
