We cross a pretty garden before reaching the heavy wooden door of this church built in 1820. Outside is the Mandeville cemetery, where the graves of eminent citizens of past centuries stand alongside those of English soldiers who escaped a severe yellow fever epidemic. On Sundays, the church welcomes the faithful in full regalia, lace or flounced dresses and ribboned hats for the ladies, strict black suits and ties for the gentlemen. Religious hymns echo far beyond the church walls.
