MONASTÈRE DE CHEIA
Despite its location on the road between Brașov and Ploiești, this monastery has all the makings of a haven of peace. Nestled in a clearing at the foot of the mountains and on the banks of the Teleajen River, it was first built around a wooden church in 1770, before being destroyed by the Ottomans a few years later, then rebuilt and enlarged during the 19th century. In addition to its monastic activity, it has long served as a refuge for persecuted Transylvanian Romanians. The monastery includes a small museum and some twenty rooms.
