ROCK CASTLE
This 12th century castle is located at an altitude of 820 meters on a rocky outcrop
It is above all the exceptional site on which it was built that makes this castle a unique place. At an altitude of some 820 metres on a rocky peak, this 12th century castle became a den of thieves under the tutelage of Gérothée de Rathsamhausen, who taxed transport and goods. As a result, it was destroyed in 1467 on the orders of the Bishop of Strasbourg and the Count of Salm. The fallen garrison, composed mainly of peasants, was hanged even though the lord saved his head. Today, only the remains of the dungeon remain.
