At the bottom of piața Republicii, slightly set back from the street, this 15th century Gothic style church is the oldest monument in the city. Its bell tower with a clock (which is not so common in Romania) reaches 60 meters. It was built in 1904-1906. The church was once protected by fortifications, of which only a few fragments now remain. A little further down, at the end of piața Republicii, you will see behind the trees the Orthodox Cathedral, built between 1926 and 1935 in a neo-Byzantine style.
