Baia Mare is a town with many tourist attractions. Its historic center is packed with interesting sites such as the Museum of County History and Archaeology, the "Iancu de Hunedoara" House, the Butchers' Tower and the old "L'Aigle Noire" inn. Science fans can visit the Mineralogy Museum, the Planetarium or the Observatory. For those interested in Romanian tradition, the Museum of Ethnography and Folk Art is a must. Baia Mare was once known for its mining and gold-mining activities in the 14th and 15th centuries.
