At the end of December, Sighetu Marmației hosts the Winter Traditions Festival(festivalul datinilor de iarnă), a colorful event that showcases the wealth of traditions associated with the end-of-year festivities: folklore groups from various villages in Maramureș, but also from other parts of the country, parade through the town's streets, decked out in traditional costumes. Each presents its Christmas carols(colinde), masks and winter customs. Bewitching!
