Built at an altitude of 480 m, a visit to the Neamț citadel(Cetatea Neamț) has to be earned: the 15-minute climb is pretty steep! But once at the top, and after crossing the pretty bridge, you're rewarded with a beautiful view over the town of Târgu Neamț. Inside, you'll have access to several rooms featuring reconstructions as well as explanatory panels tracing the history of this 14th-century citadel, which played a key role in the defense of Moldavian territory, notably under the orders of the illustrious Ștefan cel Mare.
