Close to the ruins of the princely court, of which it was once a part, the Church of St. John the Baptist(biserica sfântul Ioan Botezătorul) was built around 1498. In traditional Moldavian style, very compact and beautifully decorated, it is one of the few churches from this period to have retained its original form. The bell tower, or Ștefan cel Mare tower, was added a year later, a few meters further on. At 19 meters high, it is the symbol of the town.
