Located to the north of the Sulina Arm, it's one of the delta's largest lakes, covering an area of almost 1,000 ha. Spelled Fortuna or Furtuna (meaning "storm" in Romanian), its name derives from the fact that, in bad weather, its waters become very turbulent, making the area potentially dangerous. It's one of the most spectacular spots for birdwatching: swans, pelicans, eagles, egrets, cormorants... Many boat excursions pass through here. It's also a popular fishing spot.
