Timetable

Opening hours are fairly flexible. Stores generally open from 9 or 10 a.m. to 5 or 6 p.m. on weekdays, but close around 3 p.m. on Saturdays. Department stores and shopping malls - such as Illum or Fisketorvet Copenhagen Mall - are open non-stop from 10am to 9 or 10pm, including on Sundays. For shopping, there are numerous supermarket chains in Copenhagen's various districts: Netto, Føtex, SuperBrugsen, Fakta and Irma. Normal opening hours are 8am to 10pm.

Sales

Like its neighbour, Sweden, Denmark has no legal framework for balances. They take place twice a year as in most European countries. Department stores start from 27 December and finish at the end of February. In summer, the period runs from the beginning of June to the end of August. However, the sales are not as interesting as in a capital city like London!

What's very local

Danish design, which can be found in decorative objects from key rings to coffee sets, furniture and lighting, can be discovered at Bo Bendixen or Aveva Design. And let's not forget clothing fashion, with sequined socks from Beck Sondergaard or floral socks from Marimekko, its Finnish competitor! As for food, a few savory notes (smoked salmon or herring) accompanied by sweet treats (Karamelleriet caramel, Svend Mikelsen chocolate and Lakrids by Johan Bülow licorice) served with an Aquavit or a tea (A.C Perch's Thehandel, official supplier to the Danish court; Nute, packaged in pretty wooden boxes) will prolong your Danish stay in style!
