CHURCH OF RISE (RISE KIRKE)
Romanesque church with square bell tower in Ærøskøbing, distinguished by its crenellated gable facades.
This 12th century Romanesque church was extended several times to accommodate the population of the village and that of Marstal, which did not have its own church until the 18th century. It is a modest building with a single nave, in the shape of a Latin cross, flanked by a square bell tower. Its facades with crenellated gables give it an original look. The cemetery is surrounded by a circular wall. Inside: a 14th century altarpiece illustrating the Passion of Christ.
