Marselisborg Castle was built by the architect Hack Kampmann between 1899 and 1902 as a gift from the Danish people to King Christian X and Queen Alexandrine on the occasion of their wedding. This summer residence is occupied by the Queen and her family in July, at Easter and at Christmas. The name Marselisborg refers to a former baronial manor. It means "Marselis Castle" after the German-Dutch merchant Gabriel Marselis who renamed it in 1600.
