VOERGAARD CASTLE (VOERGAARD SLOT)
Beautiful château featuring master paintings (Raphael, Greco and Goya), porcelain, Louis XVI furniture...
One of the most beautiful Renaissance buildings in Denmark, Voergaard was inaugurated in 1580. Once you arrive, you visit this private residence as if you were a guest of the master. And what beautiful surprises to discover along the way: master paintings (Raphael, Greco and Goya), porcelain, Louis XVI furniture, a fire screen embroidered by Madame de Maintenon, a coffee service used by Marie-Antoinette in the Temple, another that belonged to Napoleon ..
Why such a collection of riches from France? This is easily explained since the wife of the owner of the castle, Count Oberbech-Clausen, was none other than the daughter of the French surgeon Jules Péan. This was a good match since she was the widow of Count Chenu-Lafitte, a name well known to Bordeaux wine lovers. After his wife's death, the Count left the vineyards of southwestern France and transferred the furniture and art collections to Denmark. He also created a foundation to ensure that the château would be open to the public after his death (in 1963). The result is a jewel of French refinement lost in the Jutland countryside! Speaking of jewels, the family jewels are kept in a safe place and are only shown to visitors on a video!
Take the time to walk around the park where some peacocks are pecking. This is accessible even if you are not visiting the residence. But it would be a shame not to visit the whole..

The ratings and reviews below reflect the subjective opinions of members and not the opinion of The Little Witty.
