SKOVGAARD MUSEUM (SKOVGAARD MUSEET)
A museum featuring modern frescoes by Joakim Skovgaard and paintings by Peter Christian Skovgaard (his father).
Inaugurated in 1937, the museum was to contain only the works of the master of modern frescoes, Joakim Skovgaard. But he wanted to extend the circle of painters admitted to the museum to include his family and friends. Thus we find paintings by his father, Peter Christian Skovgaard, a famous landscape painter of the Golden Age period (mid-19th century), by Lundbye, Constantin Hansen... or paintings inspired by Nordic folklore, made by his brother Niels Skovgaard.
