KOLDINGHUS MUSEUM (MUSEET PÅ KOLDINGHUS)
Museum in Kolding to find exhibits of furniture, silverware, uniforms and relics of Danish Catholicism.
Koldinghus dominates the city. A very spectacular example of restoration of historical monuments where one replaces what was destroyed to find the original building. Here, it was also decided to enhance the ruined parts of this fortress.
This castle was built in 1238, demolished and burned several times, especially during its occupation in 1808 by the Spanish troops enlisted by Napoleon. The soldiers were so cold that they had lit large fires, probably the cause of the terrible fire that destroyed a large part of the building. The ruins are now well protected inside the present castle. The whole wing concerned by this restoration is absolutely magnificent. One can walk around on several levels, taking the measure of the place which is used for temporary exhibitions. The lighting was particularly well done, light wood and a warm light give these ruins a festive air.
The rest of the Koldinghus consists of several rooms where furniture, silverware, uniforms and relics of Danish Catholicism are exhibited in a rather classical way, as well as numerous paintings. In room 19, don't miss the drawings and paintings of Hammershøi, the painter who sublimates greys and interiors bathed in half-light as well as muffled lights... It is possible to climb to the top of the keep, built in 1600. Easy circulation thanks to the elevators.
