CHURCH (KIRKJA)
All-white church featuring a runestone dedicated to Thorkil Ønundarson (village founder)
In the center of the village, it can be seen from afar! Dapper, and all white with its red roof and green border, it was built in 1917 on the site of five previous churches. With its many windows, it stands out in the Faroese landscape with its style that reminds us of Central Europe! Inside, there is a 13th century rune stone, erected to the glory of Thorkil Ønundarson, the founder of the village and first settler. Also, outside, a memorial pays tribute to the ships sunk during the Second World War.
