KÁLVALÍÐ
One of the first museums on the Faroe Islands to showcase the life of yesteryear in Kálvalíð, an old Faroese house
The Kálvalíð Museum in Miðvági is one of the first local museums to be established in the Faroes. It presents an exhibition of the old life in Kálvalíð, a very old Faroese house. In 1632 it belonged to the local pastor, and from 1673 it was used as a home for pastors' widows. Since 1968, it has been owned by the local parish. There are many stories about the widows of Kálvalíð, the most famous being the story of Beinta (the Barbara of the author Jørgen Frants Jacobsen), who was the wife of a clergyman in Viðareiði and Miðvági.
