The mountain where the bomb that targeted Tvøroyri fell when the Nazis wanted to destroy the salt warehouse on the other bank of the river
Tvøroyri was bombed because the British had set up their observation post there to prevent German air attacks. The Nazis wanted to destroy the large salt warehouse (which still bears the word salt in white letters on its concrete frame) on the other side of the river where the boat arrives today. But the bomb fell next to it in the mountain... and never exploded. Coming from Norway, the plane had been sabotaged by Norwegian resistance fighters who had replaced the explosive of the bomb by sand..
