Fámjin was born and killed the creator of the Féringien flag, Merkið. His grave is facing the entrance of the small church, which is kept under glass, the first flag of the archipelago, made in 1919. It was not raised legally for the first time at the time of the war, in 1940, on the British, as Denmark was occupied by the Nazis. After the war, by acquiring its autonomy status, the archipelago obtained the right to retain its standard.
