KALVALIÐ
Old house built for the widows of shepherds, housing unusual items: whale oil lamps, spinning wheels, etc.
It is one of the oldest houses on the island, built in the 17th century for the widows of pastors. Inhabited until 1956, this tiny two-room building is filled with sometimes unusual objects. Cow and dried whale stomachs used as fishing buoys, tools for cutting peat, whale oil lamps, spinning wheels, and in the bedroom, indoor slippers: red for the women, white for the children, blue for the ancestors... The children slept in the attic, the widow in an alcove bed near the entrance.
