MEMORIAL TO FOUNDER SHEIKH ZAYED
This memorial to the founder of the Emirates was built to convince people that he was, remains and will remain a guide for his people.
A small exhibition space, but a large monument to the glory of Sheikh Zayed, the founder of the Emirates, built by the artist Ralph Helmick in 2018. The building is worth a look, especially at night. For in this striking triangle along the cornice appears the abstract starry portrait of the nation's hero as a constellation. It is up to the visitor to gather the stars together and thus form the portrait, a bit like these children's games in order to draw a shape. Also enjoy all the different points of view. The goal is to convince of the important impact of the last president, Zayed was, remains and will remain a guide, a star for his people. It is at the foot of this monument that on February 4, 2019, Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar signed the "Document on Human Brotherhood for World Peace and Common Coexistence". The memorial is also a technical feat: you see 1,327 geometric shapes suspended on 1,110 cables and weighing 250 tons, all on a 190-ton steel structure with more than 5,745 counterweights to keep the shapes suspended. All around a small botanical garden allows you to appreciate some of the different species of trees and plants that grow in the emirates. Inside the building next door, towers can be booked in advance. Your Emirati guide will proudly explain the life, role and importance of Sheikh Zayed in the building of the UAE.
